I am an avid reader who has always found solace in the pages of a book, but have never really thought about how or why reading helps with so many aspects of life. When I had a miscarriage and had to process emotions that were deeper than I thought I knew what to do with, for a while it didn’t seem as though anything was going to help. As it turns out, lots of things did, including support from some incredible people and a faith which thankfully was only strengthened – but also reading. It would be easy to be flippant about this ‘hobby’ that I gave some time over to whilst I was off work, but I saw it as an important part of my recovery. Obviously everyone’s recovery journeys will be different, but I thought I couldn’t be alone in feeling that the book-world has a lot to offer people in pain. Hence – this blog was born.
As well as reading I love music, baking, sunrises, crafts, coffee, coffee shops, reading in coffee shops… theatre, flowers, chocolate, long walks, the smell of freshly cut grass, lakes, candles, laughing, tidying up, and not having to set an alarm.
A quick note on why I stay anonymous: as a psychologist I have to be very thoughtful about how much of me my clients know, and that will be different for each person. I want to be in control of who knows what about me and most of what I post here will be things I never have need to disclose to anyone I support.
